NABC Membership Application
Biotechnology, especially agricultural biotechnology, is the first technology where people representing a host of different societal groups are demanding a role in the discussion of public research agendas and the pre-marketing impact of new products on the environment and society. Through the NABC, public interest groups, regulatory agency staff, scientists, sociologists, farmers, industrialists, economists, consumers, ethicists, lawyers and others can meet in a non-threatening environment to exchange views and make progress towards a consensus. Membership is offered to educational and research institutions involved in activities that support agricultural biotechnology research and development.
There are no individual memberships available. The NABC provides a network for member institutions to work together on the complex issues that arise regionally, nationally and internationally. Senior administrators represent member institutions on the Council, which sets policy and the overall direction of the organization. The Council meets 2-3 times per year to conduct the NABC business. The organization’s president and its executive coordinator oversee day-to-day operations. The NABC offers a two-tiered membership — full membership and affiliate membership.
Full NABC members attend three Council meetings a year where the NABC business is discussed and where presentations on key advances; emerging issues and predictions on agricultural biotechnology; trends in science and technology, governmental, legal, regulatory, and new products; policy; and industrial/structural change are made. Members also participate in the annual meeting and a variety of other NABC functions, including its annual Congressional Briefing, and receive copies of all NABC publications. The annual dues for full NABC members are $6,000. New members commit to a 3 year membership, after which the renewal is annual.
Affiliate members attend the Annual meeting, the luncheon or dinner portion of the NABC Council meeting, and the segment where presentations on agricultural biotechnology updates are given, allowing members the opportunity to learn about issues that might impact their institutions and a for networking with all NABC Council Members. In addition, affiliates receive copies of all NABC publications. Affiliate members cannot participate in votes on issues that impact the organization.
